It is safe to say that the shape of nose hugely impacts on the overall appearance of an individual as it is right in the centre and takes 1/3 of a face.

For this reason, rhinoplasty has been a highly sought after cosmetic surgeries world-wide.

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure commonly referred to as a "nose job." It involves reshaping or resizing the nose to enhance its appearance or improve its function. People may undergo rhinoplasty for various reasons, such as correcting birth defects, improving breathing, or enhancing facial harmony and aesthetics.

At Mina Plastic Surgery, rhinoplasty is one of the most frequently performed surgeries and Dr Cha has extensive experiences in performing rhinoplasty to clients from all over the world.

In this article, we have gathered some of the most frequently asked questions regarding rhinoplasty !

Question 1: Follow-up appointments after rhinoplasty.

Each and every plastic surgery clinics have different follow up care protocols.

Here is our follow up care appointments after rhinoplasty. Please note that, this may change depending on patient’s recovery and existing medical condition.

Day 0 : surgery day

Day 1: IV antibiotic + cleaning of surgical site + lam-light therapy

Day 3-4: removal of packed cotton inside nose, cleaning of surgical site + lam-light therapy

Day 7: Removal of outer sutures + lam-light therapy

Day 14 : Removal of inner sutures + lam-light therapy

Each visit you have with us, Dr Cha will see you to assess your recovery status and answers any concerns you might have.

Question 2: when can I start wearing glasses?

Depending on types of rhinoplasty you had, we recommend you to wait 1-2 months after surgery to wear glasses.

This is because, there are possibilities that the weight of eyeglass can affect implants to shift/move.

Although this doesn’t happen frequently, we recommend our clients to wait 1-2months post surgery to prevent such incidents from happening.

Question 3 : can I blow my nose?

Sneezing and blowing nose can lead to build up of pressure inside the nose, which can lead to bleeding especially during the very early period post rhinoplasty.

Therefore, sneezing, blowing and picking nose should be avoided for at least 1 month post rhinoplasty

Question 4 : Can I sleep facing down or on my side?

Sleeping on your side or on your stomach should be avoided for several weeks after the surgery.

The reason behind this is, any postures other than sleeping on your back can put unnecessary pressure onto your nose which can impact on healing process.

Sleeping on your back with your head elevated is considered as the best sleeping position as it can also help with de-swelling.

Question 5: can I smoke and drink alcohol after surgery?

Not just the rhinoplasty, but smoking and drinking alcohol must be avoided for at least one months.

Drinking alcohol can dilate blood vessels which can lead to bleeding.

It can also delay healing process which may result in inflammation/infection.

Nicotine in smoking constrict capillary vessels which can delay healing process and increase risks of infection.

Infection can contribute to nasal contracture, hence, smoking and drinking alcohol must be avoided after rhinoplasty.
